As the 21st Century culture becomes more aware of the effect they are having on their surrounding
environment, many are looking for ways to pitch in and help alleviate their carbon footprint in daily
activities. This same line of thinking is now being applied in the travel industry.
These ecologically minded travelers are looking for ways to travel without feeling the guilt of additional
environmental impact. Many hotels have picked up on this vibe (some even 10 years ago) and have begun or
completed work to become "green". This move not only helps the bottom line of the hotel by conserving
costs, but it also attracts a new market of these green customers.
Not suprisingly, hotels at Disney and the Central Florida
area are taking the lead in this change. For example, the Hilton at Walt Disney World recently became the 24th hotel in the state of Florida to become
certified under the Florida Green Lodging Program.
