Not all cities are created equal. Some are highly congested and flat. Others are more spread out and hilly. Some are sunny and warm all year long, and others are rainy or snowy from season to season.

That’s why you should have a variety of rental car options available to choose from for your upcoming vacation to best suit the destination you’re headed to. Here are some suggestions for the best vehicles to drive based on the type of city you’re visiting.

For Heavily Congested Cities

  • Compact Cars (Nissan Sentra or Similar) – For trips that involve traveling to highly populated areas, like Los Angeles or Atlanta, smaller vehicles are best suited for getting around town. In addition to getting some of the best gas mileage, compact cars are typically the most practical vehicles for parallel parking and squeezing into tight parking spaces with ease. Plus, these vehicles are also generally the most affordable for both daily and weekly rates.

For Cities with Lots of Hills

  • Sport Utility Vehicles (Chevy Captiva or Similar) – For cities with steep hills like San Francisco, having a smaller sport utility vehicle with an automatic transmission is a good option for handling the slopes without losing control and rolling back down them. A smaller SUV will also help with parking in tight spots and the narrow streets that fill the city.

For Cold-Weather/Rainy Cities

  • Specialty SUVs (Jeep Wrangler Unlimited or Similar) – For cities that are notorious for cold or rainy weather, like Seattle or Ketchikan, you may want to rent a vehicle that has four-wheel drive to ensure you don’t get stuck anywhere there’s snow or mud. Although these vehicles don’t always get the best mileage, they are better for traction control and tend to have bigger tires, which can handle the extreme weather more easily.

For Warm-Weather Cities

  • Convertibles (Ford Mustang or Similar) – If you’re headed south to a sunshine-filled paradise like Miami or Orlando for your next getaway, renting a convertible is a great option for enjoying it to the fullest. Not only are convertibles great for taking in the great weather, but they’re also great for safety, security, power, comfort and convenience. Most convertibles are also equipped with tires that are well suited for hot temperatures and sizzling asphalt.

At E-Z Rent-A-Car, we offer all these options and many more, so you can choose the best car for your trip. For even more information about our other options, see our list of vehicles online and decide for yourself!
