The Best Smartphone Apps for Traveling in a New City

Posted by E-Z RAC Team on Aug 15, 2014 3:42:00 PM

Traveling is one of life’s greatest pleasures, but there are some elements of travel that can be tiring or difficult to navigate. Well, things have become much easier thanks to the advent of the smartphone and the apps that have followed. Travel apps are a dime a dozen now, and they can help you travel to and fro without nary a concern. We’ve collected four travel apps that you should download before you head out on your next adventure.

TripIt

TripIt is an all-inclusive travel app that will ensure your travels are planned and organized without you ever having to do any work. The app, when given access to your inbox, will crawl your email and check for travel information. Once it has all that information it will then collect everything and create an itinerary. You can also check the status of your flights and your hotel bookings through the app, too. If you don’t want the app crawling through your inbox for privacy reasons, you can also manually input your information. The app will organize everything itself, still.

XeCurrency

XeCurrency is a currency conversion app that will allow you to convert any amount of money into the currency you’re currently dealing in. The 180-currency table is among the most comprehensive and works quickly, so you’ll know how much you’re spending in dollars and cents. Additionally, XeCurrency includes up-to-the-minute rate updates, and also includes charts of currency highs and lows, if that is something that interests you.

GoBy

One of the best parts of traveling is experiencing new things and discovering new locations, but when you are in an unfamiliar city, figuring out where the “hotspots” are isn’t always easy. GoBy takes care of that problem for you. The app pulls together all events, local spots, museums and points of interest using your GPS location, and spits them back out for you. You’ll be able to discover great places to visit whether it is around the corner or an hour away. The app lists the closest events first, but you can explore events and points of interest using the map, as well, if you are someone who doesn’t mind traveling a bit further for some real fun.

Airports by TravelNerd

Along with being a real-time flight tracker, Airports gives users the skinny on the airports they’ll be flying in and out of. It includes floor plans of the most popular airports, gate information, lounge locations and Wi-Fi hotspots. It will also tell you when the restaurants and shops in the airport open and close, so you can plan around those times accordingly. Overall, it is an all-inclusive app that will help you get in and around the airport with ease.

Technology has definitely made traveling less of a hassle. Have you got some great apps that you live by on your trips?
