St. Patrick's Day is an Irish holiday celebrated all around the globe to honor the patron saint of Ireland, Saint Patrick. So who was Saint Patrick?

Saint Patrick the patron saint of Ireland and one of the most celebrated religious figures around the world. Most information about St. Patrick has been twisted, embellished, or simply made up over centuries by storytellers, causing much ambiguity about the real life of St. Patrick. However, there are some elements of his story about which most scholars accept to be true.

Patrick's mission teaching Irish folklore in Ireland is said to have lasted for thirty years. He used the 3 leaved shamrock to explain the Holy Trinity. It is believed he died in the 5th century on March 17, which is the day St. Patrick's Day is commemorated each year.

St Patrick’s Day is celebrated with parades, festivals, wearing orange or green, drinking Irish beer or whiskey, and of course shamrocks. Some cities even go as far as dying rivers green during the celebrations.

That brings up green beer. Started years ago as a promotional gimmick, green beer has grown to a yearly tradition. Made by adding a single drop of food coloring before pouring a pint of your favorite beer. It will also work on dark beers by changing the head green.

Don’t forget the many traditional foods to feast on. Shepard’s Pie, Lamb Stew, Soda Bread, and the most famous Corned Beef and Cabbage. This salt cured cut of beef dates back to the 18th century when meat was cured to make it non-perishable nature. Used on naval fleets it was also traded extensively at ports of call.

So enjoy your day of green in many ways. Happy St. Patrick’s Day from E-Z Rent-A-Car.
