As a traveler, I have always been fascinated with the power food has to draw us to new places. With each border I cross, I find new dishes to fall in love with. However, there is no country that has cuisine worth flying to the other side of the world for quite as much as Thailand.
My experiences in Thailand have shown that Thai food is in a league of it's own. Thai cuisine is the perfect blend of sweet, salty, sour, spicy and umami, and it will always leave you wanting more. This is why I was thrilled to hear that celebrity chef Jet Tila and Chang Beer (my favorite Thai beer) have teamed up with L.A.'s Thai Town. They will be bringing the best Thai food has to offer to one place for the Chang Sensory Trails Festival.
Celebrity chef and native Angeleno Jet Tila is one of the top authorities when it comes to Thai cuisine. Jet has been seen on Anthony Bourdain's show No Reservations, and it's said that Jet is one of the only personalities on Food Network that Bourdain can even stand. Jet has also appeared on Iron Chef America and has been a judge on Chopped.

As the Thai government's Culinary Ambassador to America, you won't see Jet opening up a restaurant in his hometown of Los Angeles, California. Here in L.A., Jet acts as an ambassador to Thai cuisine in the area. When asked why, Jet explains that the restaurants in L.A.'s Thai Town are so phenomenal, that he would rather act as a representative for L.A.'s Thai cuisine rather than compete with the establishments that he loves.
Today, I was fortunate to get a preview to the festival. I met with Jet and representatives from Chang Beer to learn about the event, and most importantly to try the food!
From my experience eating my way through several of the Thai provinces, I can say that these dishes are as authentic as they are delicious.
Everything on the menu for the Chang Sensory Trails Festival has been carefully curated by Jet Tila, based on his personal experiences both in Thailand and L.A.'s Thai Town.
While you are tasting the foods, be sure to check out three of Jet's favorite dishes that will be making an appearance at the festival!
- Nam Prik Ong - Pork Chili Dip, Tiny Carrots, Long Beans, Sticky Rice and Chicharron
- Khao Soi Noodles –Northern Thai Curry Noodles with Braised Beef and Curry Leaf
- Khao Klook Kapi- Shrimp Paste Fried Rice with Garnishes
