You're traveling to the big apple, New York City! This is one of the most exciting spots to experience the best restaurants in the country, as well as the most diverse and creative. Expect to see restaurants that specialize in cuisines you've never heard of, or culture combinations that get you thinking "that sounds really delicious!" How do you know which places are worth the wait and the hunt? Every corner of New York is extremely saturated with different eateries, so finding the most unique and high quality businesses can mean a memorable meal each day. Worry no more -- we've rounded up our 3 favorite intriguing and truly original restaurants to see while in New York!
Shopsin's on Essex
If you're looking for a menu that will make it tough to choose, then Shopsin's is the place to be. Among all the New York restaurants to try, this stop is well worth it. Their menu is jam packed with diverse and truly original dishes that will make your mouth water and your heart sing. For lunch, enjoy a plate sandwich with dozens of options. Prefer something exotic? Try a rabbit leg and garlic french toast on their French Rarebit sandwich. If you like a challenge with your meal, try a King of Clubs -- your choice of 3 different types of club sandwich stacked on a plate.
Where Shopsin's really shines is their breakfast menu. Ever heard of Pig Newtons? We didn't either, but now we want to try Shopsin's version; a combination of fresh eggs, warm grits, pork, and house made fig gravy over bread. Sweet and savory never sounded so exciting! If you're looking for a sweet breakfast, don't worry. Shopsin's prepares top of the line bread puddings that you won't mind indulging in for breakfast. With flavors like pumpkin raisin, lychee raspberry, and white chocolate Nutella crunch, every sweet tooth will be satisfied and entertained at the same time.
Toloache Makes a Great Date Night Getaway
This upscale, New York dining spot compares to other restaurants in atmosphere and location, but not in quality and diversity. Expect a menu that will surprise and intrigue you to try something you never thought could be prepared. Take their Grasshopper Tacos, for example; they prepare these crunchy and sweet bites with an Oaxacan flair and make it palatable. Lime and chile elevate the dish to taste fresh and zesty.
Toloache also offers an extensive dessert menu with beautiful plates like carrot cake with jalapeño lime cream and a sweet corn sauce; or a vanilla custard flan with tangy raspberry sauce and crunchy caramel popcorn. Have a romantic night out at this cozy spot!
Chocolate Fans Go Wild at Max Brenner's Chocolate Paradise
Although this sugar zone doesn't qualify among the other New York restaurants, we know it's worth mentioning due to the originality and quirkiness that is inside Max Brenner's chocolate land.
Prefer pizza? How about Chocolate Dessert Pizza? They drench pizza dough with peanut butter, bits of hazelnuts, toasted marshmallows, and a dark and white chocolate mixed sauce. The site advertises that their chocolate is so much more than sweet -- it's about romance and sensuality, and the experience. We agree with them; especially when their hand mixed chocolate shakes are rich with flavor depth and variety.
The dish to try is the Very Much Chocolate Pasta, appearing to be a dark pasta dish that's hiding so much more. It's actually ribboned chocolate crepes doused in milk and dark chocolate frosting, twisted on a plate with crumbles of fresh chocolate cookies, chocolate ice cream, and chocolate covered wafer balls. Wow!
